Wapsi Ostrich Plumes
Wapsi Ostrich Plumes are loose ostrich feathers with long fibres and a soft, fluffy herl. They build volume efficiently while the fibres move freely in water, creating mobile fly components. Use the plumes for nymph gills, tails, bodies, tentacles and salmon-fly butts, as well as streamer wings.
Construction and use
The combination of delicate, elongated fibres and fluffy herl produces a full profile on nymphs, salmon flies and streamers. Tie the material in as a bunch, wrap it around the hook or use individual fibres. Loose feathers vary in usable width and length, so select each plume according to the fly size and the component being built. Controlled thread tension preserves the volume of the herl and keeps the finished element mobile.
