Wapsi Rayon Chenille
Wapsi Rayon Chenille is chenille for constructing fly bodies. Its fibre-covered surface and core provide a practical way to build a full, even body on nymphs, streamers and other patterns calling for conventional chenille. Choose the profile that suits the pattern and wrap it without stretching the material excessively.
Construction and use
Expose a short section of the core before tying in, secure it firmly to the hook shank, and trim the waste end. Wrap the chenille in adjacent turns while maintaining even tension and a consistent path along the shank. Sweeping the fibres back before each turn helps keep the surface clean and prevents fibres from being caught under the following wrap. Rayon Chenille can form a complete body, a rear thorax section or a distinct segment in wet flies, nymphs and streamers. Match the material profile to the hook and pattern rather than forcing oversized wraps onto a slim body.
- Form: chenille with a core for tying in.
- Surface: fibre-covered and suited to substantial fly bodies.
- Technique: expose the core, tie it in and wrap in adjacent turns.
- Uses: bodies for nymphs, wet flies and streamers.
