Wapsi SLF Bug Dubbing
Wapsi SLF Bug Dubbing combines hare fur with SLF fibres to create a distinctly buggy blend. The soft, irregular element keeps the body from looking overly smooth, while the synthetic fibres add another layer of texture to the finished fly. It is particularly well suited to nymphs that need a fuller, less uniform profile.
Construction and use
Use this blend for nymph bodies with a slightly scruffy, insect-like appearance. It can be spun directly onto the thread or placed in a dubbing loop when you want a more open texture and greater control over the fibres. Once the body is wound, tease it lightly with Velcro or a needle. This separates the blend and lets you decide whether the result should remain fairly compact or become more pronounced and buggy. Avoid overworking it, since the irregular surface is part of the material’s character.
- Blend: hare fur combined with SLF fibres.
- Body effect: soft, uneven and distinctly buggy.
- Best suited to: nymphs of many patterns and profiles.
- Handling tip: use a dubbing loop for a more open body, then brush it gently to reveal the mixed fibres.
