Wapsi Thin Skin
Wapsi Thin Skin is a thin, stretchable, translucent sheet about 0.0004 inch thick. One face is matte and the other shiny. It is used for nymph wing cases and backs, including patterns representing scuds, sowbugs, crayfish and shrimp. The removable backing stabilises the sheet while accurate strips and shapes are cut.
Construction and use
Cut the required shape while the material is still on its backing, then peel it away. Tie a strip in at the rear, stretch it over a shaped body and secure it at the front. Greater tension narrows and thins the strip, so apply only enough to obtain the desired coverage without distorting the edges. Select the matte or shiny face for the finish required by the pattern, then trim the excess after securing it.
- Material: stretchable translucent sheet, approximately 0.0004 inch thick.
- Surfaces: one matte face and one shiny face.
- Preparation: removable backing makes cutting the sheet easier.
