Wapsi Thin Skin Mottled Oak
Wapsi Thin Skin Mottled Oak is a thin, stretchable, translucent sheet carrying the Mottled Oak mottled print. It has a matte face, a shiny face and a removable cutting backing. The material is used chiefly for nymph wing cases and for backs on scud, sowbug, crayfish and shrimp imitations, where its stretch helps it conform to a shaped body.
Construction and use
Choose the strip width to suit the hook size and body profile. Cut the strip while it remains on the backing, then remove the backing before tying it in. Secure the sheet at the rear of the body, build the desired underbody, stretch the strip toward the eye and tie it down at the front. Moderate tension helps the film follow a tapered or rounded form; excessive tension can make the strip too narrow. Trim the excess, cover the tie-in neatly and select the matte or shiny face according to the finish required on the fly.
- Form: thin, flexible, translucent sheet supplied with a cutting backing.
- Finish: one matte face, one shiny face and the Mottled Oak printed pattern.
- Preparation: cut strips with the sheet still on its backing for controlled, even widths.
- Uses: nymph wing cases and backs for scud, sowbug, crayfish and shrimp patterns.
