Taimen STX Sinking Fly Line
Taimen STX Sinking Fly Line is a family of fully sinking WF fly lines intended primarily for streamer fishing in rivers and stillwaters. Its profile balances a comparatively slim sinking line with the need to cast a substantial fly. The shaping of the head and running line is directed towards this use, giving the family a practical configuration for established streamer techniques.
Profile and fishing use
This construction sinks throughout its length: both the head and running line travel below the surface. It allows a streamer to be worked through the water column in a lake, reservoir or river, according to the selected class and retrieve. Classes II, III and V provide a progression of sinking characteristics; a higher class number indicates quicker sinking behaviour. Tungsten powder is used to obtain the density appropriate to each class. The construction also comprises a braided multifilament nylon core, a PVC coating and low stiffness.
- Profile and variants: WF-S II and WF-S III in line weights #5–#8; WF-S V in line weights #6–#8.
- Length and colour: 30 m; grey.
- Core: braided multifilament nylon.
- Coating and stiffness: PVC; low stiffness.
When choosing a variant, first consider the intended fishing depth and pace of retrieve. In stillwaters, the main factor is the level at which the fly should be presented; on rivers, current strength and the length of the streamer’s working path also matter. Match the line weight to the rod and the size of fly being used. This combination of profile and sinking classes places the STX Sinking family firmly within conventional streamer fishing, where the entire fly line contributes to taking the presentation below the surface.
